Description
The first dinosaur to be done in my new style. Here's Lapparentosaurus, a brachiosaur from mid-Jurassic Madagascar. This is a complete overhaul compared to my earlier Lapparentosaurus restoration.
___
Lapparentosaurus madagascariensis - Shows that at least some dinosaurs really took their time growing up...
(Bonaparte, 1986)
= Bothriospondylus madagascariensis (Lydekker, 1895)
Temporal range: Middle Jurassic, Bathonian, around ~169-165 Ma
Location: Madagascar, southern Africa
Length: ~16-17 metres, possibly up to ~24 metres?
Probable mass: ~15-18 tonnes, possibly up to ~30+ tonnes?
Etymology: Lapparent's reptile from Madagascar
Lapparentosaurus madagascariensis is a species of brachiosaurid sauropodomorph from Middle Jurassic Madagascar. It is known from material represents 3 main individuals and as many as 7 less complete ones, from multiple growth stages. The holotype, MAA 91-92, consists of two neural arches.
In 1983, it was determined by histological age analysis that a mature individual was around ~45 years old, and still had not stopped growing. It was also shown in 1995 to have grown relatively fast, given the presence of a large amount of fibrolamellar and harversian bone, which firmly established Bakker's theory that sauropods were endothermic.
___
Based on 's Lapparentosaurus madagascariensis skeletal reconstruction. This was the first rigorous attempt to reconstruct the animal, and as of 2017, it's the only rigorous Lapparentosaurus skeletal reconstruction to date.
